At Alumni G, we have also heard of iShowSpeed’s famous world tour. Focusing on the China tour, we can actually learn some things from iShowSpeed. With his over-the-top reactions, wild antics, and unfiltered personality, watching his stream we can learn a thing or two.
From exploring ancient landmarks to interacting with locals, iShowSpeed’s China visit wasn’t just about memes and screaming—it was a crash course in culture, history, and global awareness. Here’s why his trip was more informative than you might expect.
One of the most entertaining (and oddly educational) aspects of Speed’s trip was his attempts to speak Mandarin. While his pronunciation was far from perfect, his willingness to engage with locals in their language showed his audience the importance of communication and cultural respect. His famous "NI HAO!" screams might not have been grammatically refined, but they sparked curiosity among his viewers about Chinese language and customs.
Speed’s travels also highlighted the contrast between China’s ancient history and its rapid modernization. One moment, he was exploring centuries-old temples; the next, he was in awe of Shanghai’s futuristic skyline. This duality helped dispel the myth that China is just one monolithic culture, introducing his audience to the country’s diversity.
Despite his usual chaotic persona, Speed’s interactions with Chinese fans were surprisingly wholesome. Whether taking photos with locals or reacting to their kindness, he showcased the hospitality and friendliness of the people he met. For many Western viewers, this was a refreshing perspective compared to the often negative portrayals of China in mainstream media.
Before his trip, many of Speed’s fans likely couldn’t point out China on a map with confidence. But as he livestreamed his journey, viewers got a real-time look at Chinese cities, transportation, and daily life. His spontaneous adventures—like hopping on a high-speed train or getting lost in a night market—gave his audience a fun, informal geography lesson.
So what can we learn from Speed? To keep an open mind! Knowledge is something that takes time to develop. Through his streams, we can see that Speed does not discriminate nor has any bias towards learning. Whenever he discovers a foreign concept (to him) he questions and he stays curious. Same as us, we need to keep questioning and stay curious when learning new subjects or concepts. Even if we don’t know where the road ahead will lead us (like Speed’s fan looking at the map), it is important to try and experience things first.
